Throwback Thursday, April 18, 2024: Postcard of Cattle Grazing in Salisbury Mills Added to Collection

This week on Throwback Thursday, we are looking at another postcard recently acquired by our Local History Collection!

This postcard postmarked September 9, 1907, was sent from “F.P.R.” and E.W.R.” from Salisbury Mills, New York to Mrs. E.B. Elwell of Northport, Maine, shows a group of cattle grazing on a farm in Salisbury Mills, New York. The back reads “Thanks for your second invitation – you have had my letter by this time and know we cannot accept it. I can think of nothing which would give us more pleasure if we only could do so. With love to you and Burke from your friends Sept. 5 F.P.R. & E.W.R.”

Dairy farms like the one pictured here provided milk to companies such as the Beake’s Milk Company, which had a plant in Salisbury Mills and produced 1,260,510 gallons of milk in 1903 alone.
