Discover the life and military service of Washingtonville native Eugene Akers, who served as an electrician’s mate onboard the U.S.S. Emmons during WWII. Our own Librarian Matthew Thorenz will share excerpts from Eugene’s letters that trace his journey from basic training, to D-Day, and finally to his untimely death during the battle of Okinawa.
