HISTORIC POSTCARD JIGSAW PUZZLE

Throwback Thursday: This week's historic postcard jigsaw puzzle is based on a 1915 postcard of Main Street, Washingtonville by Rudolph Brothers. Although cars and trucks were beginning to supplant horse-drawn wagons and buggies, many local residents still used horses to deliver goods and people in this mainly rural area.

In the center is the Washingtonville Elm Tree, which was purported to be as old as the village itself, as well as the watering trough, which provided drinking water for horses. The Elm tree was unfortunately removed in 1935 after succumbing to Dutch Elm disease, and the road has since been re-aligned.

However the buildings behind it on Goshen Avenue, as well as the drug store, grange store, and Armenian Building to the right still exist today!
