What is a Fantasy Map?

TAKE A JOURNEY
WITH A FANTASY MAP

Fantasy has a long history. And one of its most notable traditions is the idea of worldbuilding, or imagining a fictional collection of nations, cultures, languages, and histories to inhabit an imagined geography and ecology.

It's a rich and fascinating opportunity to explore all manner of topics or just imagine and share new marvels. J.R.R. Tolkien distinguished "fairy-stories" from other forms of speculative fiction by emphasizing how its author shares with readers a distinctive, marvelous world, separate from our own which still remains consistent and credible.

The fantasy map is one of the most widespread ways that we can explore imaginary realms. There may be few spaces left on modern maps for explorers to fill, but there is always another fantasy map to chart new possibilities.
