Join Reference Librarian Matt and Historian Maya Rook to discover the history behind this 2010 Western that's based on the real-life story of an 1845 pioneering expedition.

A small group of settlers travelling accross the Oregon High Desert suspect that their guide, Stephen Meek, may not know the area well enough to plot a safe and certain route.

With no clear sense of where they are going, tensions rise as water and food run low. The wives look on, unable to participate in the decision making.
