Whether the item in question is not able to circulate or simply not currently in our collection, we will do our best to fulfill your request. The Inter-Library Loan Process
Items which are not in Moffat’s collection but available at another RCLS library may easily be placed on hold and transported here within a few days. You may place holds through the online catalog or call a librarian for assistance.
Items which are not available in any RCLS library may be requested from another public library system or from a participating academic library. This inter-library loan can take up to several weeks to process. Any items borrowed from another library system must be returned directly to Moffat library by the due date and cannot be renewed. Otherwise, the owning library will decline to fulfill future requests from us. We will contact you when an ILL request has become available.
As a first resort, we use an online catalog called SEAL [link: https://seal.senylrc.org/] to search for titles that you have requested. You are free to use this catalog to check if the item you want is anywhere in southeastern New York. If we cannot find your title in SEAL, we move on to WorldCat [link: https://www.worldcat.org/] to check if it is feasibly available anywhere.
You can also request digital materials such as a pdf copy of an academic article through the ILL process.
Placing Holds On Future Titles
Librarians create records in the catalog for major upcoming works to give patrons an opportunity to place holds on them in advance. This allows people who place a high priority on a certain title to get a chance to reserve it without needing to scramble on its publication day. If we do decide to purchase a title that you recommended, we will automatically place a hold on it for you. This way, you will be the first to receive it when it becomes available.
