Short Stories at the Library – The Encantadas (Adults)
Date(s) - Saturday, August 20
3:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Saturday, August 20 at 3:00 pm in the small conference room.
Join the Great Beginnings Book Club for a special discussion of a classic short story and to enjoy the nautical world! Copies of the short story will be available at the library for pickup.
Herman Melville was deeply influenced by his adventurous and exotic experiences working as a sailor on whaling voyages around the world. More than just his famous Moby-Dick, he also wrote a wide collection of short stories and poetry. The Encantadas (or Enchanted Isles) is a look at the history, geography, and wildlife of the Galápagos Islands, then a favorite haunt of pirates, smugglers, and whalers as they traveled the Pacific. Join us as we explore one of the earliest popular literary depictions of the Galápagos Islands!
Printouts of the selections will be available for pickup at the library. Since the works of the author are in the public domain, you can freely download and read the work in full at the following link.
