Our December 14th meeting features Anxious People by Frederik Backman.
Few authors can effectively join together “madcap” and “poignant” as characteristics of the same book. but Backman manages to do just that in this humorous story where a failed bank robber accidentally bursts in on an open house and desperately holds the gathered strangers hostage while trying to think of what to do next. Many of the would-be hostages are less than impressed by the situation, preferring to nurse their own secrets, grievances, hurts, and passions. As the police and news media show up and the pressure increases, this reluctant group comes to understand surprising truths about themselves and sets in motion a hilariously unexpected finale. December is always a good time for a relaxed, affable sort of book, and Backman is such a sure guide that readers get just – despite the anxiety in the title.
Copies of Anxious People will be reserved at Moffat Library between November 10th and December 14th. You can also obtain a copy on your own at the links below. Note that some titles may not be available in every format. Please feel free to reach out to moffat@rcls.org if you are having difficulty getting a copy.
This program will be run virtually via Zoom. A link with instructions on accessing the meeting will be e-mailed to registrants the day before the program. Again, if you encounter any difficulty or have any questions, please contact us at moffat@rcls.org!
