The Great Beginnings Book Club meets the first and third Tuesday of every month at 7:30 pm.
While our meeting room is closed, we are holding virtual meetings via Zoom. Don’t worry if meetings are too frequent for you to finish each book; we would be thrilled to see you at whatever meetings work for your schedule. Book selections are posted at least several weeks in advance to give you a chance to focus on specific selections.
Moderated by John Donaldson.
New members are always welcome!
Our June 15th meeting features The Stone Diaries by Carol Shields.
We’ll keep with the theme of searching for contentment for another book; it seems like a popular concept for the Pulitzer committee! Shields won the 1995 Pulitzer Prize with this ambitious, fully realized account of the entire life of Daisy Goodwill Flett, an apparently ordinary woman struggling to find purpose and contentment all her life. The cycle of domestic comfort and privation in different eras of life is instantly understandable and sympathetic as we journey across a lifetime and a continent.
Copies of The Stone Diaries will be reserved at Moffat Library between May 25th and June 15th. You can also obtain a copy on your own at the links below. Note that some titles may not be available in every format. Please feel free to reach out to firstname.lastname@example.org if you are having difficulty getting a copy.
This program will be run virtually via Zoom. A link with instructions on accessing the meeting will be e-mailed to registrants the day before the program. Again, if you encounter any difficulty or have any questions, please contact us at email@example.com!
