TAIL WAGGIN TUTORS – for new readers
Meets for 15-minute one-on-one sessions from 4-5 PM OR 5-6 PM
What do you get when you bring children, dogs, and books together? You get happy, confident children who love to read. Teachers, librarians, children and parents agree, it’s an unbeatable combination. Join Cousteau, the wonder dog, for a fun reading partner.
HOW IT WORKS: The Moffat Library schedules therapy dogs to come into the library a few times each month. During this time children and dogs bond together over a shared story. The child’s confidence and reading skills grow in a relaxing environment. It’s that simple. We ask that you arrive for your child’s session a few minutes early to give your child time to relax and pick a book if necessary. If your child needs help choosing a book to read, please ask a library staff person to help. A staff member will come and get your child when it is her time to read.
WHAT TO EXPECT: When you sign your child up for a session with a therapy dog you will get:
-15 uninterrupted minutes to read
-No one will be listening except the dog
-A trained therapy dog handler will be in the room but she will not interrupt the session
-We ask parents to remain outside while their children are reading to the dog
Space is limited for these one-on-one 15-minute sessions. Call Miss Gordon @ 496-5483 x 328 or email: agordon@rcls.org for more info or to register.
Tail Wagging Tutors is sponsored by Therapy Dogs International. Therapy Dogs International is a volunteer group organized to provide qualified handlers and their Therapy Dogs for visitation in a variety of facilities and setting.
